meet its meager operating expenses of approximately $3400

be able to easily meet its annual expenses, with room to
spare for next year. Please consider it.

Subject: Text for water calculations
Does anybody have a suggestion for a book with good water calculations?
I specifically want to know how much loss I have from my mash to my boil
kettle so I can properly readjust the mineral content pre boil.
Cheers,
Jason

Subject: Flag poles for hops??
I have planted six hop mounds - in a single line, spaced about five feet
apart (center to center). I was thinking about putting in two flag poles
(one at each end) and running a line between the two, with the hop twine
dropping vertically to each mound. (Advantage: I can use the flag pole
pulleys to lower the bines and twine for harvest time.)
I don't want to spend much money, but I don't want to go too cheap that they
don't hold up to the wind.
I won't be flying a flag so that's not a risk. I wouldn't imagine that the
weight of the hops would be problematic, even in strong winds.
The cheaper 20' models are sectional, with a 2" diameter. Would that be up
to the task? (Note: while four of the hop mounds have small rhizomes and
won't produce much for a couple of years, the other two have two HUGE root
masses from one of my friends, so I expect them to be productive even this
year...)
Any thoughts from hop growers?
Brew on!

Subject: Mineral (calcium?) loss during the mash
There have been a few stray comments lately implying that a
significant amount of the minerals in the water or added to the mash
are lost during the mash. I've never read anything definitive about
this. Can someone enlighten me? If certain ions (calcium?) are lost
during the mash, can someone give me the mechanism and the extent to
which this occurs?
