NOTE: With the economy as it is, the HBD is struggling to
meet its meager operating expenses of approximately $3500
per year. If less than half of those currently directly
subscribed to the HBD sent in a mere $5.00, the HBD would
be able to easily meet its annual expenses, with room to
spare for next year. Please consider it.

Financial Projection as of 31 May 2013
*** Condition: Cautiously Optimistic ***
501(c)3 status rescinded. Refiled 1023 for retroactive
status 25 June 2012. Per the IRS, our case must be
assigned to an agent. IRS is currently assigning
applications received in March 2012. Ours was received
in late June. To current financials, HBD is officially
bankrupt in August. Due to recent developments, HBD.org
will likely have to be dissolved per the bylaws once
funding runs out.
Projected 2012 Budget $3,145.01
Expended against projection $1,586.99
Unplanned expenditures ($ 152.00)
Projected Excess/(Shortfall) ($ 89.84)

Pat Babcock asks about the new 3 Brewers (it's Les 3 Brasseurs in Quebec)
pub in Oakville, Ontario. While that's not quite my immediate local
neighborhood, it's only a 20-25 minute drive, so I should be familiar with
it. I confess I haven't been there yet. I'm guessing the location was once
occupied by an outlet of the Gordon Biersch brewpub chain, which never
really succeeded in Canada and retreated to its US roots.

At any rate, I have been to Les 3 Brasseurs in Montreal, and I can report
that the beer was drinkable but not fabulous. They have expanded to about
10 locations in recent years, including one in downtown Toronto. Word from
those I generally trust is that they all have a certain house yeast flavor
that is somewhat distinctive and not loved by all, but you could do worse if
you happen to find yourself there.

Pat, I realize you are something of a captive of work when you are in
Oakville, which I'm sure you know has kind of a schizophrenic personality as
a city. It's at the same time a faceless suburb and also one of the
wealthiest communities in Canada in certain neighborhoods. Unfortunately
it's just not a great place for beer; you have to hunt a bit to find places
with the right selection.

In sum I'd say you might as well check it out. You're close enough that you
can walk 10-15 minutes back to your hotel.

Brew on!
