Subject: Gruit Ale

Hello all

After the brewing software runs again(at least if you have Promash...),
i want to ask you something else.

I wanted to brew a gruit ale for a long time, but i couldn't find the
herbs suggested. (Not available, too expensive or from too far away)

One of the hard to get plant was wild rosemary(ledum palustre). It's
also slightly toxic, but what do you expect in a "whiches brew".

Yesterday i stumbled upon a German company, that sells this plant.
(Shipping to my country is not too expensive)

Then i found another company, that supplies the rest of the suspects.

Myrica gale
Achillea millefolium
Calluna vulgaris
Artemisia vulgaris
Artemisia absinthium

I ordered all of these live plants and will put them in my yard.
Hopefully they will grow nicely.


I found some recipes on the net, but is there someone on the HBD with
gruit experience?
If yes, can you give me some insights? Recipe, no-goes handling of the
herbs and so on?
I will also reread "sacred herbal healing beers" from Steven Buhner.
